CLICKER TRAINING BASICS

Please start by watching the video excerpt from Laura DeMaio Roy's DoggyU YouTube channel. In the video, Laura explains why and how to use a clicker. She also explains the clicker mechanics that will set you and your dog up for long-term success.

Next, please review the "Key Concepts", which defines the terms used in clicker training and will help you navigate the course modules.

GETTING STARTED WITH CLICKER TRAINING

The following handouts provide step-by-step instructions on

How to teach your dog what the click means,
Testing your dog's understanding, and
Practicing your clicker mechanics without your dog.

Please review all these steps carefully and ensure that your dog understands the clicker before moving on to the first module.

We will help you troubleshoot your clicker mechanics during your introductory lesson if necessary.

Once you have reviewed the above video and handouts, please submit a video demonstrating your use of the clicker by uploading it to YouTube and e-mailing the link to [email protected].

Please ensure that your video is no more than one minute long, and clearly shows the elements of the "Using the CLICKER" diagram in the handout above.

If you have never used YouTube before, please read the following on how to create an account and upload videos:
